As she hopped out of a cab one day, Burnett caught her coat in the door. As the oblivious driver drove away, Carol ran for her life beside the vehicle, terrified of being dragged through the street.
Fortunately a quick-thinking passerby hailed the cab and alerted the driver, who promptly stopped and released the coat before asking Burnett whether she was all right. “Yes,” she replied, gasping for breath. “How much more do I owe you?”
